Research and first contact between Herro Mustafa and long-time friend and Director, Kirk Roos. - March, 2006-June, 2006
Herro and Kirk plan for reunion and first shoot in D.C.
First shoot in D.C. for promotional video.
Tour of Herro’s office and reunion with her family. - June-August, 2006
Developed relationship with PBS as co-production team, and agree to work with them to broadcast final production.
Continued research, writing and planning.
More footage shot with Herro’s father, and family. - September, 2006
Completed promotional video, edited by Chad Spokely.
2nd shoot in D.C. with Herro, Mustafa family, Roos and Spokely. - October-December, 2006
Planning and research for 2007. - January-March, 2007
3rd shoot in D.C. with family, friends and colleagues of Herro’s including Secretary Rice.
Development of marketing and promotional materials.
Pre-planning for next shoots, including a possible trip to Kurdistan. - May, 2007
Herro visits North Dakota to speak at Zion Lutheran Church, the church that sponsored her family in 1976.
Filming in her hometown, including the house at where she met Roos in 1976.
Continued promotional speaking engagements including National Exchange Club of Minot. - July, 2007
Travel to Kurdistan with a group from North Dakota, including Roos’ father, Darrell, and Herro’s family to meet her Kurdish relatives and to get a majority of the necessary footage for the film.
Many scenes shot in Kurdistan, including a retracing of the steps the Mustafa family took in the early 70’s to escape from Saddam’s regime. - August, 2007-October, 2007
Website development, re-working promotional video and continued promotional events.
